Problem:
Cannot create or edit text in IDW files after Microsoft Hotfix KB918118
installation
Information:
A recent hotfix KB918118 issued by Microsoft to secure vulnerabilities in
rich text format has caused text in Inventor IDW files to disappear. This
Microsoft hotfix is installed via Automatic Windows Update, and if enabled,
will be installed without the knowledge of the end-user. If the Inventor
end-user is experience text editing problems in Inventor that did not exist
prior to the update, then it is likely that the Microsoft hotfix has been
installed.
Solution:
Autodesk has recommended that end-users uninstall the Microsoft Hotfix
KB918118 as a work-around to resolve this issue. At this time, Autodesk does
not have a hotfix to resolve this issue in Inventor.
To uninstall the Microsoft Hotfix KB918118, follow the steps below:
1. Uninstallation of a Microsoft Hotfix may require Local Administrator
privileges. Please contact your IT staff for assistance if necessary.
2. Open the Control Panel and choose 'Add or Remove Programs'
3. Be sure to check the 'Show updates' box
4. Locate the Windows XP Software Updates named 'Security Update for Windows
XP (KB918118)'
5. Click the Remove button. Note: Windows may warn you about the removal of
this hotfix
6. Once the hotfix is removed, restart Windows
