What’s New in Autodesk Vault 2012

Concurrent with the release of its updated CAD product offerings, Autodesk also released updated 2012 products in its Autodesk Vault product line including Vault Workgroup, Collaboration and Professional.  We at Hagerman & Company and our customers have been extremely pleased with the features and enhancements that have been added over the last few Vault product releases and we believe 2012 will be no exception.

A major theme of this release is in the areas of improved and expanded integrations within other Autodesk and non-Autodesk products.  These include:

Autodesk Inventor / Digital Prototyping – Support for Autodesk Simulation, Inventor Publisher and Inventor Fusion along with access to Change Order and Item information right inside of Autodesk Inventor

BIM Integration – Including support for Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks

Microsoft Outlook Integration – Allowing users to save/check in e-mail files from Outlook directly into Autodesk Vault.  In addition, Vault folders can be accessible within Outlook, and Outlook e-mails saved into Vault are viewable within the Vault Explorer client

Another major new feature in Vault 2012 is “Projects”.  A Project is a folder type that can contain links to all the pertinent information regarding a customer, project/job or a specific product or product line.  These links or pieces of information can be CAD or non-CAD files (whose true locations could be spread anywhere in Vault) and Change Orders or Items if the customer have Vault Professional.  We believe this capability will be a major benefit to many of our current and future Vault users.

Other major enhancements include:

-Linking of detailed revision information in Vault to AutoCAD and Inventor revision tables and blocks

-Enhanced support for AutoCAD Sheet Set Manager

-Where-used on Items and Change Orders (Vault Professional)

-Improved property display and editing

-Support for SSL (secure sockets layer) certificates on Vault clients
