The capabilities of AutoCAD® Map 3D can often be overlooked when implementing or even looking for new software. Just the name can make some assume that it is a Geospatial package only, which is understandable. Map 3D can be much more than just a tool for creating maps. Map 3D is built on top of AutoCAD, containing all of vanilla AutoCAD’s functionality. The tools provided specifically to Map 3D range from; connecting to external database files, to using different types of topologies, to report and control data.
Map 3D could be used in many different ways, due to the enhanced data attributes and the ability to work with almost any design file type. Map has actually gained interest in the facility management and architectural fields, although it is used much differently.
Architects can save valuable time with Map 3D and the ability
to gather
and compile the necessary data for a LEED certified project, or
simply to access the sustainability of the site itself. Meanwhile,
the Facility Manager is using the same software by attaching object
data to rooms and areas and running valuable reports based on the
data generated in Map 3D.
Map 3D is a very open software allowing users to create fields of
data per object that might normally not be allowed in a specific
software geared towards a specific industry. Map not only allows the
users all this freedom but it does it in a very familiar manner, and
is compatible with almost any software.
Companies looking for an AutoCAD that will allow them to easily
connect to external data, query data based on properties, generate .shp
files, utilize free data provided by local and state governments,
generate data for specific objects or even create interactive maps
for any situation, should look into Map 3D for their needs.
