Rendering Automobiles in Autodesk Showcase Professional 2010

This is the fun part. After weeks or months of working on your solid model, it’s nice to be able to give it a realistic touch. Autodesk Showcase Professional 2010 gives you the tools to visualize your new product.

An easy way to start learning Showcase: I is import, M is Materials, L is lights, E is Environments, A is Alternatives.

To import your solid or surface model, type “I”. Showcase allows you to import Inventor models, AutoCAD drawings, Catia files, Pro Engineer files, SolidWorks files, STEP files, UGNX files, DXF files and more.

To add a high quality material to your model, type “M” for material. Choose a material from the numerous included material palettes.

To add a little bit of detail and reflections, type “L” for Lights.

After adding some lights, you will want to put your model into a cool-looking 3D environment. Type “E” for Environment and select from the existing 3D environments.

To create some alternative paint jobs and camera views, type “A” for Alternatives. Rotate your view to get a different perspective of your model. Right click on your new alternative and choose “Set image for empty alternative”. To capture your new model’s materials, window select the model, then right click “Add Selection To.” This will add the model with its new materials into the view.

I hope this simple tutorial will get you excited about Autodesk Showcase Professional 2010. This is a very powerful software package that you can master with a short learning curve. And how fun is this? This beats lines and circles any day. Check in with your Hagerman sales rep if you want to have this much fun!
