Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2010 Tip

Bitmap Pager Statistics Dialog

The Bitmap Pager Statistics dialog provides information to help you resolve issues with scenes that require large amounts of memory for texture maps. It is intended for advanced users to debug scenes and help shorten render times.  By default, the dialog is not available in the interface; it must be added as a hotkey, menu item, or toolbar button via Customize User Interface functionality.

Customize menu > Customize User Interface > Category: All Commands or Render > Action: Bitmap Pager Statistics Toggle > Assign to a hotkey, menu, or toolbar button.

Note:  As of Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2010, bitmap paging is always active and managed automatically, so there is no need to set an explicit Memory Limit.

When you start 3ds Max Design, it checks these folders and runs or otherwise uses the corresponding files:

Additional Icons > Path for additional icons
Additional Macros >  Path for additional macros
Additional Scripts  > Path for additional scripts
Additional Startup Scripts  > Path for additional startup scripts
Page File  > Path for automatic bitmap paging
Temp  > Path for temporary files

If you plan to do large renderings, it is a good idea to reassign the Page File path to a dedicated, high-performance drive that can serve as a scratch disk for bitmap caching.  You can do this in Customize menu > Configure System Paths.
