Important Hotfix Just Released for Vault 2009
and Productstream 2009 Users!
Attention Vault 2009 & Productstream 2009 users!
A hotfix (TS1093427) has just been released by Autodesk
to address some of the searching capability changes that
affected Vault 2009. This hotfix addresses other issues
reported to Autodesk related to Vault functions, but this
notice is specifically regarding the searching changes. A
little background of what happened will help explain the
impact of this newly released hotfix. With the release of
Autodesk Vault 2009, Autodesk instituted a new means of
searching the metadata in Vault. Autodesk modeled the
searching around a token-based system.
Heres an example: Filename of ABC123DEF456.dwg. When
performing Advanced searches in Vault using the Contains
option, if you input the Contains value to = C12, Vault
would not see the file ABC123DEF456.dwg. As Vault saw it,
the file ABC123DEF456.dwg contained 5 tokens broken down as
follows: 1)ABC 2)123 3)DEF 4)456 5)dwg. A token is
considered a string of like characters without being
separated by spaces or other symbol characters. You could
have tried searching for *C12, but Vault would not allow a
leading wildcard because in this case, it saw the * as
another token. You could input a trailing wildcard asterisk,
but it would still not report back the result you desired
because it was looking for the C as its own standalone
token.
So if you did not know the entire token string value, then
you might not get the results you were hoping for during a
search of the Vault metadata. This newly released hotfix
corrects that issue by allowing a leading wildcard symbol
(the asterisk *). Using the previous example,
ABC123DEF456.dwg, in the Advanced Vault searching, you can
now use the Contains option, input a leading and a trailing
wildcard asterisk and search for *BC1* or *C12* or *23D* or
*23DE* or *EF456*. In any of these example searches, Vault
would return the results that ABC123DEF456.dwg fit the
criteria of each of the search conditions. This hotfix only
applies to 2009 Vault & Productstream installations and
should be installed on the server that contains the ADMS
program. No updates are required on the user client systems.
Caution: It is
imperative that a vault backup (in the ADMS Console) be
completed prior to installing any update or hot-fix.
