EdgeCAM Release 12 Delivers Expanded Machining Capabilities

The latest generation of EdgeCAM software, EdgeCAM 12, expands on its 5-axis machining capabilities and delivers improved CAD data management, faster toolpath generation and new options for hole cycle optimization. Let’s take a look at these and some of the other features of EdgeCAM 12.

5 Axis Milling

EdgeCAM 12 extends the range of 5-axis machine tool support to include head/table configurations for both 4/5-axis simultaneous and multi-plane work. In addition, you can now pivot about the tool tip and define different approach moves. This is all supported by full machine simulation to aid visualization of the machining process and verify work setup. The complete machine, including all table/head and tool movements can be displayed, helping to ensure safe operation and process optimization.

Milling Enhancements

Enhancements to the Milling side include the ability to use Cutter Radius Compensation when profiling a solid, added capabilities to the Hole Cycle by selecting the start position for the hole pattern and a Lace Band Width option, and the addition of Prismatic Geometry Option to the Roughing Cycle for solids, 2D/3D pocket/boss features. With these improvements users will get a more efficient NC code, improved accuracy, greater control and ease of use.

Hole Cycle\Operation

The original “Hole Cycle” and “Hole Operation” have been retired to superseded cycles and the “New Hole Cycle” has been renamed “Hole Cycle”. A migration tool has been added to allow earlier strategies to use the new features and cycles.

Turning

A new Rough Turn Cycle has been added in the Preview Mode of EdgeCAM 12. This new cycle gives the user cusp removal options, anti-notching, variable depth and cut in section capabilities and more lead and link options. This new cycle will bring improved automation, reduce cycle times, and give better swarf control.

Some other turning improvements are that Rotary Rotate now supports Cutter Comp and Lathe Index has an alternate solution option for tool position.

General Enhancements

The Code Wizard now supports the addition functionality with the 5-Axis Milling and Hole Cycle. Also Mazak Integrex Templates have been updated.

Windows Vista Support has been added to EdgeCAM 12. It is only supported on 32-Bit Vista Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise versions. Note that in Vista, even though you are an Administrator when you run an application, the default for Vista will treat you as if you were a Standard User. So you will need to turn off User Account Control through the Control Panel.

The Tool Store has been updated to a SQL Tool Store from a MDB Tool Store. This is to give a foundation in future releases to improve performance, allow for multi-users, 3rd party integration and file locking capabilities.

The release of EdgeCAM 12 continues the addition of many features and enhancements designed to make machine programming even easier and to save you time.
