SolidWorks Renames its Reseller Channel
Hey, how’s your Dassault running?
French conglomerate Dassault Systemes has announced it is
renaming its SolidWorks reseller channel, the Dassault
Systemes Volume Channel.
A lot of people may believe that SolidWorks is an American
company. It was, originally, but years ago it was sold to
Dassault Systemes, maker of CATIA, Delmia and other products
you probably don’t want to know about.
Giving the SolidWorks channel a French name probably appeals
to its French owners, but we doubt it carries much cachet
with the folks in America who sell (or buy) SolidWorks. Also
referring to it as “Volume Channel” doesn’t exactly imply
the type of solution selling VARs are proud of. In fact, it
sounds almost contemptuous to us.
Well, what would you expect from a country that sought to
build the world’s biggest jetliner while its American
competitor, Boeing, wisely developed a smaller and more
economical plane for its next generation of products? The
development of the new French Airbus jet has been plagued
and delayed by design problems. We wonder whose CAD systems
they were using. As they say in France, alors.
