Autodesk® Inventor™ Suite 2008: What’s New

Autodesk has just released Autodesk® Inventor™ Suite 2008, and Hagerman & Company would like to give you a sneak peek of the new technology in Inventor 2008.

The new edition’s name, Autodesk Inventor Suite 2008, reflects Autodesk’s change to a year-based nomenclature. This is now the standard for all Autodesk products. So, engineers and designers using AutoCAD® Mechanical 2008, Autodesk® Productstream® 2008 and Inventor 2008 can now be assured that everything is at the same release level.

Through community-focused development, Autodesk listens to you, the customer, and incorporates a lot of new technology and product enhancements, based on your feedback and wish lists. Below is a brief excerpt of what’s new in Inventor 2008.

Enhanced User Interface

The user interface for Inventor 2008 has been updated. These changes include enhancements to increase productivity as well as changes designed to reduce unnecessary visual differences between Inventor and AutoCAD that can cause confusion for people who work with both products.

Command Alias
Providing faster keyboard access to commonly used tools, typing the tool’s command alias will invoke the tool immediately while typing the first character displays a small pop up window showing all the commands that start with the selected letter. You can select the desired command with the mouse or simply type the remaining character to invoke the tool.

Repeat last command
Pressing the space bar repeats the last command to avoid reselecting the command each time.

Updated icons
The icons have been redesigned to improve consistency with AutoCAD and controls are now compatible with Windows XP.

Tool tips and status text update
The Inventor cursor has a new tool tip options that displays command prompts in the line of site so you don’t have to look at the bottom of the screen for the tool tip prompt.

User Profiles
User Profiles allow the added flexibility to switch between stored settings quickly. An interface within application options is provided to manage and create profiles.
