Autodesk Inventor 11:
Utilizing specific file names with Frame Generator*

Use these steps to specify unique file names when using the Frame Generator:
1) Within Frame Generator, choose “Insert” to select locations of new frame members. Be sure that the “Prompt For File Name” is checked.

2) Select "Apply" and the Frame Member Naming dialogue will appear.

3) Click on the default Display Name (e.g. ANSI AISC 3x3x 3_16_00000000) and enter a file name (e.g. 8631290), then select the “Save As” button within the File Name on the same line.


4) The Display Name value will appear in the File Name field with the .IPT extension. Select the Save option.
5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all members are complete, and then select “OK.” (Note: when a duplicate file name is attempted, the line that already uses that value will be highlighted in red).
6) The Vault procedure is simplified, since the rename function can be used instead, and the Part Number field updated automatically.
