Rooms and Room Tag Calculations |

Rooms and room tag calculations
in Revit Building 9
In the latest edition of Autodesk
Revit®, Revit Building 9, rooms do not
have to be tagged at all and can be independent from room tags
in Revit Building 9. By unchecking "tag on placement" on the
options bar a room can now be placed in an enclosed area, acting
as its own object.

The room can then be scheduled illustrating properties such as
area and volume, which is also a new feature of Revit Building
9.

It is now easy to reflect volume as part of a room tag. Simply
click on the Room command on the Basics design bar and click to
place a room tag.

Using the default template you will notice three types of room
tags in the Type Selector:

If you select Room Tag with Volume, you will get the following
tag:

Go to the Settings pull-down menu and then select Room and Area
settings, checkmark Compute room volumes and then notice how the
room tag updates with the volume shown.

Going to the Settings pull down and selecting to compute room
volumes will always calculate the volumes for any tagged room.
You can determine what the volume of a room is without using the
volume room tag. For instance, after applying a Room Tag with
Area tag, hover your cursor close to the boundary of the room
until you see a diagonal cross:

Select the cross and go to Properties on the Options bar. Notice
that volume is shown under the Dimensions category:

The default template uses the wall finish as its boundary
location when calculating the area, perimeter and volume of a
room. The boundary location can be changed in the Room and Area
dialogue box. For instance, if the location is set to wall
center, the boundary line adjusts accordingly.

If volume units need to be in liters or meters, go to the
Settings pull down and then Project Units and select Volume to
change its units.

On a further note about room tags, you can now tag rooms in
section views using the Room Tag command on the Room and Area
design bar.
